Heritage Community School was founded by Goretti and Isaac, parents of eight children, during the COVID-19 lockdown. After returning to their village in Dokolo, they began homeschooling their own children who had lost learning time during the lockdown. Soon, other children in the community started joining them.
Many families in the area had no access to early childhood development services, and children were entering primary school without foundational learning. Classes first took place under a tree, then in a temporary structure built by the community.
Today, the initiative has grown into a school serving 278 learners and continues to expand as more families seek educational opportunities for their children.
For the community, Heritage is not simply a school; it is a symbol of hope and opportunity.
